How to Set a Sales Appointment

What do you want from your decision maker? An appointment!

A successful business to business telemarketing campaign depends on the ability to call, reach decision makers and effectively communicate with them. It is essential to quickly capture their attention and state your case.  Remember, you have less than 10 seconds to capture their attention. What is the best way to do this?  Say something that makes them want to know more.  The point of your call is not to sell your product or service, but to pique the decision maker’s interest enough so that they will want to meet.   

The process starts with being in the right frame of mind.  People will talk with you if you are compelling and are talking about something they have an interest in.  From the very start of your call, you want to be real and in the moment. Speak with confidence, speak clearly, and be upbeat when you speak with the decision maker. 

Key elements of a good call answer these questions:  Who are you? Why are you calling? How does the decision maker benefit from this call?

“Hi John, this is Angela Maness from A Better Call.   We work with companies to increase their sales opportunities through outsourced cold calling.  Do you have a minute to speak with me?”

Now you have the decision maker’s attention. Time for your elevator pitch.

Your elevator pitch is the part of your call where you give brief, compelling statements about your company, what you are offering, the benefits of working with you and a concise value proposition. To make it meaningful and engaging, you need to inform the prospect about the ways your product or service solves pain points relevant to their business and their role. Anticipate objections and have strong answers, outline your key differentiators, offer success stories. The key is to get their attention, ask questions, and listen!
